Cleaning Up Time For the Work At Home Mom

I believe the current swine flu outbreak is causing alarm around all the world. Whether you are a work at home mom or have a full time job outside, the first concern that comes to your mind is to protect your kids from any viruses or outbreaks.

Though there is suspected cases in our region, I hope that health authorities will do their utmost best to screen all traveling passengers returning from affected countries. It's scary when tv commentators have stated that the spread of swine flu should not be underestimated.

This is the time for schools, community places and even homes to step up in cleanliness and hygiene. We can only do our best to keep germs, bacteria and viruses at bay but above God, we need to pray for God's protection.

So you get out your bbq sets and clear up your outdoor dining sets this spring, why not do yourself and your family a favor to give everything a good cleaning. Sanitize your kitchen tops and surfaces and wash your hands frequently.

That's a reminder for the work at home mom, that I should give my home office a good clean up this weekend. It's time to vacuum my bed and pillows with the Karcher before taking a break in Phuket. I'm glad to take a break from work and looking forward to an island outing with some good friends.

is outdoor furniture necessary?

The weather has been pretty bad lately. It's hot and humid and it's causing many people to fall sick. I always find it hard to figure out why do people want to spend so much on outdoor furniture here since the weather is terribly humid all year round. How comfortable can one in the porch when the sun is scorching? The interesting thing is, I have noticed many home with unused expensive outdoor furniture at the porch. Maybe it's just part of outdoor decorations, making the house 'more complete' visually to their neighbours and friends. Most of them end up as 'white elephants' in the long run and will eventually end up looking worn, washed and old.

accessorizing your room

One of my favourite past times is to read home and living magazines cos I always like to gather creative ideas from pictures and articles. When accessorizing your room, remember that less is more. Choose neutral colors and accent with colorful textured throws, rugs, and other decorative and artistic elements. Keep the balance of your room in perspective. You don't want to overwhelm a small room with large, bold pieces, nor do you want to place smaller, neutral pieces in a large room where they'll get lost.

If you're working with used furniture, try distracting from worn upholstery or a faded finish by using colorful toss pillows or table runners. Bright curtains can distract from a faded carpet and breathe new life into an old room.

more than just a light bulb

Ask a child and he can tell you that a light bulb is used to light up the house and give light. But ask an artistic person and she can tell you that a light bulb is more than just a light giver device. Would you think a, outdoor lighting light bulb can be used as a hanging vase - what a fabulous idea!

This Night Owl light bulb vase is carefully hand painted and emptied out so that it can become a recycled light bulb vase, complete with bare branches, fall leaves and an owl. You can then fill it with water and flowers. Each vase comes with an attached wire loop and a handy, dandy suction cup to attach to the window of your choice. Definitely makes a great ornament for the eco-friendly house.

would you like to own your own home?

Are you a woman who has the dream of owning your own home? If you do, you are definitely not alone. This year, I plan to invest in a small flat and this is the time to save money for a new home down payment. This would mean eliminating unnecessary purchases such as another pair of shoes, a new jewelry piece, a handbag of a different colour, the latest gadget..etc.

The truth is many women mistakenly believe that they cannot afford the cost of a new home. Yes, there are really some who may be unable to afford the cost of a new home, but, for others, it is actually a lot easier than it appears. It is very common that home owners (new or old) to get
Home Loans to finance the purchase since not many people have ready cash to pay for a new home. Thankfully, it is easy to compare loan rates, check out mortgage information, get advice from the internet. Loan Network dot com is the place to check all these valuable information plus questions and answers for mortgage and loan topics, find real estate links and even get a mortgage quote.

Well, it looks like in order for me to realize my dream and save enough for the downpayment for a new home, I would need to work harder in the next few months.

how i hate packing

I was just reminded that we need to pack up our home office and living area before we leave for our vacation. When the word 'packing' was mentioned, I kept silent and sulked silently. This is one activity I quite enjoy. It's tiring and time consuming. Worse still, it can take days!

Imagine the day will come when we must pack up and move to another country, there'll be alot more to do! First, I would have to check out movers and compare quotes since it's only logical to look for a Cheap Moving Company, isn't it? It's good to know that websites like Service Network help done the selection work for those who are looking for movers. So all you need to do is to assess each moving company, check out their rates and decide who you would like to use for your move. That helps to save time and anxieties from ending up with the wrong moving company!

for the interest of home owners

It's nice to give our homes some remodelling after some years and for some people, moving into a new home can be exciting as a new environment awaits. But it can be tough finding the right place to get a home loan or home refinancing plan.

Of course you can get a comparison of quotes at sites at ModernLend, which not only provides resources for those looking for home loans but lenders can also list their services on the site. The attraction is, lenders who sign up get 5 free leads and I believe these are targeted leads which have the keen interest in looking for a home loan. This is another channel of advertisers for lenders who need to target more homeowners and mortgage leads in their home financing plans.

resource for all home owners

It is common that when a couple decides to tie the knot and start a life together, the next thing that comes will be to buy a house. For a newly wed couple, this can be a big decision given that the major expenses have gone to planning that big day. Thus, it is important to make careful decisions on the financial aspects of owning and buying a home.

For most people, getting a home loan is a necessary step to take but looking for one that offers the best rates and terms can be daunting. ModernLend is a stop where borrowers can find submit their profiles or requirements and find lenders that fit their criteria. It doesn't have to be a home loan but the site is also designed for people looking for home refinance, home purchase loan or home equity loan. What's beneficial is that home owners can get a chance to choose the loan offer and lender after a careful evaluation.

what furniture to choose for your home

Everyone of us have our own preference in style and design when it comes to choosing home furniture. Some of us may prefer oak, some maple while some love the durability and luxury finish of teak garden furniture.

Teak is a very precious wood and outdoor furnishings for your patio can be very expensive. The beauty and the durability makes teak wood a real collectors item when found. Teak furnishings often last over many centuries and known in the antique world as quite a find. With the convenience of online shopping, you can find your teak furniture at sites like Teakwood Patio Furniture who not only carries a wide selection of teak chairs and teak benches but teak loungers, teak tables and other accessories. Before choosing what type of furniture to buy for your home, ask yourself where do you intend to display the furniture. If it's for patio, teak benches would be most ideal since they can withstand adverse weather conditions of rain and shine.

apartment finder goes online

How nice if the internet was this sophisticated ten years ago! If it was so, I wouldn't have to spend weeks searching for a student accommodation during my postgraduate years. I was thankful to rent a room from a nice retired couple after the recommendation of a friend but for some of my classmates, they had to wait for weeks to get a rented apartment of their desire.

Whether you plan to relocate or looking for apartments for rent on short or long term basis in a new city, check out apartmentfinder dot com where your searches can be done in various ways. Search by college, military base or address, otherwise, enter your keywords, apartment name, zipcode or location and the results will presented within seconds before you! Apartment Finder is a familiar and trusted publication that individuals look for when they are in need of renting an apartment so you can expect that the online version of it will continue to deliver credible results and features to its customers. Searches can be determined by your budget for the apartment which helps to present more accurate results for your apartment search. What's helpful is that the apartments are further shown in a local area map to indicate the exact location and proximity of each apartment. This is definitely ideal especially for those who may not be familiar with the city at all.

when it's time for car transports

I'm one person who doesn't like to move house, so does DH. But we know that when the time comes for us to move to down under, we need to do lots of planning to make this move a smooth one. Whenever we heard of friends moving and having to spend days, if not weeks, on packing, we would empathize with them.

Sometimes, it's even tougher if you need to move the family to another state or country. Imagine the enormous tasks of selling the house, packing up, settling the children, arranging for car transports, renting a house in the new city...etc. Few years ago, friend of mine moved to another state and insisted that her car be taken with her too. She spent weeks finding the right moving company handling car transports as there wasn't any specialized company for automobile transport then. When doing a research on auto transports, always ensure the reliability of the transport company. Experience drivers and quality service, together with good rates are other things to look out for.

Relocation is indeed a stressful event that is avoided by many especially those with families and kids. But if you are have to move to take up a new job or appointment, I suppose you haven't had much choice, do you?

simplistic elegance about Asian decor

In my free time, I love to flip through home and decor magazines and check out new architectural and decorating themes. There are very few themes for decorating a home that capture the imagination quite like an Asian inspired theme. The use of rich colors, fabrics, and textures are the hallmark of these themes.

There is a simplistic elegance about Asian decor that is almost impossible to imitate in other methods. It is simply put, stunning to walk into a room or a home that has been decorated in an Asian inspired motif. What's even nicer is a home design I spotted in an interiors publication where the focus is on the post & beam frames in the home interiors. The timber frames give an elegant cum cosy feel to the house, and the colour of the wood further adds warmth and style. I have seen these frames being used in vacation homes and churches and they are undeniably gorgeous! When it comes to our new house next time, I'll definitely give a thought on using these hardy timber frames.

what bedroom furniture do you like?

Hmmm... which woman wouldn't want a nice looking bedroom with her favourite contemporary bedroom furniture in the style of her desire?

When we moved into our second hand link house, I wasn't too happy about our bedroom furniture especially the built-in wardrobe. I wanted a walk in wardrobe or a modern sleek finish one with sliding doors. But the existing one was of a light mauve pink that was just not my colour. We had a big argument on that and due to budget constraint, we left the wardrobe as it was.

To make myself happy or rather, to 'upgrade' the look of the wardrobe, I changed all the door knobs to contemporary, matte silver ones which transformed the dull looking wardrobe to a chic one. Instead of spending a big sum of money on a new wardrobe, the new knobs only cost me a fraction of it. This incident has indeed taught me to be creative and versatile. But I would love one of these nice bedroom furniture when we move to a new house next time...

silk trees that look real

Not many people who having real plants and flowers in the home for good reasons. They may be allergic to flower pollens or may not have the time for regular care and maintenance. One of the best ways is to get these silk trees who look as good as real, only without the need for watering and fertilizing. In other words, it save you time and money :) They are nice decorating plants for homes, special occasions, gifts and even in offices. Besides, they are almost maintenance free!

the beauty of teak garden furniture

Since we are on the topic of furniture, let's take a look at teak garden furniture. Basically, teak garden furniture is made from the teak tree found in the tropical region of Javanese. Manufacturers of these teak outdoor garden furniture purchase their teakwood from farming companies that practice environmental harvesting. The cut trees are replace by newly planted trees, so that the chance of teak trees becoming obsolete will not be a reality of the future. The teak trees will be growing for generations to come.

So why do people choose teak benches or teak tables for their gardens or their homes? It all lies in the beautiful, bright golden color that will hold its beauty over time.

Teak garden furniture requires very little cleaning to maintain its beauty. The strength and durability of the furniture will withstand the weather extremely well. The natural oils in the wood help preserve its natural beauty and no additional oils are needed. The designs found at Teakwood Patio Furniture are simple and elegant. Yet it is made to be strong and sturdy which will last for many generations.

swimming pool tile makes a difference

Most kids love to hang around in the swimming pools. I guess water by itself is therapeutic and even kids are subtly drawn to water attractions and water play! Sometimes, it's the swimming pool tile flooring that attract both adults and children alike. Usually, bright coloured mosaic tiles are used to create the 'oceanic' feel with some commercial properties having patterned ones to display creativity and uniqueness.

I have witnessed many old private condos with ugly swimming pools which need serious upgrading. Actually, what these pools need is to find an expert in swimming pool resurfacing to model and give it a new look. These days, the creation options to re-designing pools are without limits. By adding pebbles, new plastering or merely changing swimming tiles, the pools can obtain a new character and style with remodeling experts. My personal theory is that if you have a pool in the property, you should put in the effort to maintain it. Otherwise, it's better not to have it in the first place.

anyone loves doing dishes?

Anyone loves doing dishes? I don't :P So there's a rule in our house. I do the cooking and DH does the washing. Fair? Not many women enjoy doing dishes - it spoils our nails, dries our hands, causes wrinkles..etc. Currently, we wouldn't need a dishwasher but when we move down under, I told DH that I would like to get one of those built-inWhirlpool Dishwashers for our house. A great place to search for household appliances like refrigerators, ovens, ranges, washers and dryers, and dishwashers is Krillion dot com. The unique thing with Krillion search features is that the results tally with the supply found in your local stores. This helps to avoid any disappointment when you have driven all the way to the store to find that the product is out of stock. Krillion saves you precious time and bringing you national brands sold by big box retailers.

metal buildings better than wood frame ones

Seven years ago, we attended my brother-in-law's convocation and took the opportunity to tour around San Francisco for a short time. My brother in law is a marathon runner and will participate in numerous runs just for the fun of it. Being a bachelor, this is how he spends his leisure and recreation moments. While we were there visiting, he took us to a marathon event cum carnival, together with our cousins. That was an eye opener for us as we got a chance to experience the locals and participate in some carnival activities. I did notice that the organizer was using metal buildings for the activity rooms, which were spacious, functional and most importantly, they were easy to set up.

Later on, I was told that metal buildings were popular for both commercial and residential use due to the durability and price factors. Unlike wood frame buildings, they were not prone to termites attack or weather damage.

have you heard of fire glass?

When I heard about this next cool thing for the home backyard, I thought it was interesting to check out. Urban fire glass is contemporary and artistic is its visual appeal. Apparently, it's hot and cool at the same time. What an interesting concept. Plus, it is alot nicer than old fire logs in the house... great for places which have four seasons. It's definitely out of question for our local folks here ;P

stairlifts for outdoor use

Just when I was writing about Stairlifts yesterday, a friend was asking if there were such stairlifts for outdoor use. I took a look at Value Stairlifts and true enough, I saw one that was designed ideally for garden porch and houses with garages.

Since the stairlifts are made of high quality material that are heat and UV resistant, they are durable and do not fade easily under adverse weather conditions. These reconditioned stairlifts have been carefully refurbished and checked by experienced technicians before they are being released for sale.
