a security warning!

I've been receiving few emails on security in PJ and KL areas. For those who live in this part of the world, do take note of the following seriously (now I've got another reason to migrate):

Dear Friends,
Our security is getting from bad to worse every day ....
From my residents association newsgroup -
Dear Residents,
I want to share this story with all of you and I hope you will inform all our other neighbours as well.
Today while having lunch at Mark's Assam Laksa Restaurant in One U, I was informed by the owner's daughter that she was just robbed by MAT REMPITs while
stopping at the traffic lights in front of One Utama (old wing) coming in from the Taman Tun traffic lights at about 12.30 am. 3 motorbiker Mat Rempits surrounded her car from out of nowhere and just smashed the two front windows since there were only two young ladies
in the car and demanded for money. They put a knife at her throat!!!!!! They managed to get her handbag despite her friend trying to fight off the bikers on the other side of the car. 2 more Mat Rempits on 2 bikes were waiting a little further back, just in case. Their friends who were stuck at the traffic light to cross from Taman Tun to One Utama, rushed across beating the red lights when they saw the 5 motorbikes with bikers surrounding the girls' car. Upon seeing the car coming towards them, the 5 bikes with the riders sped off towards Centrepoint and disappeared into the kampong, and towards DamansarUtama. Luckily nothing happened to the young ladies in the car. The Rempits were gone in a jiffy, and when reporting to the police, she was informed that it was the 4th case in the month. My goodness what is happening to our area, apparently the Mat Rempits are closing in into Bandar Utama after finishing their rounds in another part of KL or Selangor and the police don't seem to be able to do anything except take statements and saying " Biasalah, next time jaga-jaga sikit dan jangan keluar malam-malam"

On another day, also around the same time ie 12..30 pm, her brother was behind another car that stopped in front of the KBU College traffic light near B 8, and saw about 30 Mat Rempits surrounding the car in front of him and dragging the motorist out and beating him up because he put up a struggle. The mat rempits then sped off after getting what they wanted. The man had a gash at the back of his head.
I think M14, cases like this should be printed out and put into every mailbox especially for those who do not pay their dues for the security. The Mat rempits are aware that we have security so they are trying something else like robbing people at traffic lights and without warning. Please take care of yourselves and be always vigilant. Sometimes it may be best to give them what they want rather than put up a fight cos we are all not Jacky Chans or Steven
Seagal. Maybe we should ask the traffic police to put the orange light for the traffic lights after 11.30 pm so that we don't have to wait unnecessarily for the lights to change to green and be subject to the possibility of Mat rempit attacks etc. After all, after 10.30pm it is already pretty quiet when the One Utama crowd is all gone except for the movie goers.
This is really scary news and please take care everyone.

sad news on the newspapers everyday

Everyday when I flipped the newspapers, I read more bad and sad news than good ones. This is what the world is like - full of gloom and doom or is it the media who prefers to highlight only the negative ones. Recently there had been lots of truck accidents on the road and those stories left me feeling sorry for the members of the bereaved family.

It is no wonder that there are so many fatalities on the road involving trucks as they tend to drive very fast on the roads especially in the night. I was just reading about how Truck Accident Lawyers California had helped lots of families in managing litigation in wrongful deaths and serious personal injury throughout the States. With the help of the appointed Truck Accident Lawyer, many families were able to build their case as the lawyer helps to achieve full compensation for the affected families. It is important to seek consultation from an experience personal injury attorney as this will ensure that the claiming process is a smooth and fair one.

50% discount on traffic summonses

No where in the world offers discounts for traffic summonses except Malaysia. In line with the 50th Merdeka celebration, the traffic department offers 50% discount to all traffic offenders who pay their summonses by a certain time and the whole department were jammed packed with people. Maybe they should consider getting those radar detectors to keep them out of traffic trouble. That should save the hassle of paying fines and being issued any speed summonses. The government sure knows how to collect these bad debts from the offenders :P

THOOF - oh, what is that?

A new social media and personalized news site had been launched, I was told. When I went finding out what it was, my friend scribbled on a piece of paper - THOOF.COM. I looked at her and thought she might have made a mistake - what was she talking about>

Oh well, I went looking this morning. So she was right about how it was spelt - Thoof.com. But I wonder, why this name - why not something else? Looking at the logo design of Thoof, the 2 'O's remind me of the 'O's in GOOGLE. They are graphical representation of our human eyes. And that's what Thoof is about anyway - it searches for news, list them for your read and save you time from googling. 'Th' can be the short form to 'That', 'This', 'They, 'Them'... it's about 'Anything' - people, events, things, happenings, buzz... etc. 'F' - oh well, I don't mean to be rude but some people may think it means the big 'F' swearing word. But maybe, it's just there to make the term sounds good. Thoof is better than 'THOO', right?

But let's not worry about what it means... what's cool is the kind of information you can get at this social media site and from here, you can be kept up to date with what's going on in and around the web. So, what do you think 'THOOF" mean :)

updates on Shearwey

You know, the story about the 4 year old sweet little girl who got killed. I guessed I was wrong. Earlier on, I wrote that I felt sorry for the mum but yesterday's papers shocked me with the news that the mum was connected to the little girl's murder. Now, I was wondering how merciless could a mum be and how could she do such a thing to her little girl - it was hard to accept.

She and her jobless boyfriend are both under arrest for investigation while the family mourned for Ying Ying's demise. One thing I know, she is the hands of the loving Father above.

Place Your Ads for FREE!

Whenever I read something about UK, I think about my friend, Janet, who has taken the bold step as an entrepreneur in starting her own ceramic business with the support of her husband. This is admirable for a 24 year old girl and I am glad that she has recently launched her business online.

As she is constantly looking for exposure for her business, the free ads placement in itsmymarket.com would be a great community site for her to check out. This is not only a classified ads site for the UK community, there are other useful resources on what's on, news on local weather, blogs and even free dating features.

Well, you don't have to be a UK resident to leverage on these great features. If you have business whose target audience is those of the UK market, you can place your ad for FREE in the classified ads.

To add to all the above, I find the website friendly, attractive with those colourful navigation buttons.

Rice Bowls of Pan-Asian Models in Malaysia Threatened

If you are a model with Pan-Asian looks in Malaysia, you may be in for an early 'retirement'. According to a recent article in Asia Media, Malaysia's government feels that "with so-called "pan-Asian" features were not representative of Malaysian demographics." How true is that?

While that will seriously affect the creative industry and the rice bowls of non-Malay models, the Information Minister claims that, "Using pan-Asian faces means downgrading local faces," he said. "We have to give priority to models with local looks."

In 1997, this ban was shelved after much complaints from the public but it seems that this ban may be revived as the purists think that Malaysia should promote "l'ocal faces' in the media."

Honestly, this is one of the reasons our family is migrating in few years' time - too much of these political nonsense and it basically stirs up more dissatisfaction among the other races.

100% compensation from accident claims

I just read about a 100% compensation claim when you are injured in an accident in the UK, and of course, this is for those living in the UK. In other words, if there is 'no win' for your accident claims, you don't need to pay any fee, and there is no hidden consultation costs too. A free assessment will be done by the Specialist Personal Injury Lawyers which will advise if the claim should be pursued. And if it warrants a claim and it is successful, you keep 100% of the compensation!

Spread this word to your friends or relatives living in the UK.

Bausch & Lomb recalls ReNu Contact Lens Solution

Oh no, did I read it clearly: "ReNu Contact Lens Solution Recall!" This label looks familiar as my husband has one bottle of this solution on his shelf. Apparently, Bausch and Lomb conducted an investigation after receiving three customer reports of discolored solution. The discoloration is caused by elevated level of trace iron which can affect the effectiveness of the solution over time.

DH has been considering lasik for many years but still has not gathered enough courage to do it. I should alert him about this piece of news and perhaps, there is another reason why he should think about lasik.

eBook for property investors

In the last few years, the local property market has witnessed a boom and developers are catching on the trends and more and more property projects have been launched. In line with that, I have been reading awful stories of how investors have made losses in preconstruction properties.

Alot of these investors are retirees who have some extra money from their retirement funds. They have invested in preconstruction condos or houses after attending a talk or private event organized by developers. Too many times, beautiful photos and sales talk have been misleading. If only more investing clubs can be set up to provide professional advice to these investors, risks can be minimized. If you happen to fall in this category, this e-book might shed some light in providing you more insights before you make another investment decision.

House values rising in LA

Looks like DH is agreeing to spending Christmas with his close cousins in California this year. I am excited as it has been 7 years since we last visited LA. They lived in Orange County in LA and it was a nice estate with a beautiful park in a conducive setting. We had the pleasure to bunk in their new place then.

His cousin and her family were here for vacation 2 years ago and we had a lovely time catching up. In our conversation, I recalled her mentioning about how LA house values had increased in the last few years. Another cousin who migrated to US had bought a house in Texas for investment as she envisioned that the house values would continue to rise in the next couple of years. Well, those who bought houses in the 90s for investment purposes would be reaping profits now with the current booming property market.

Save on international calls

How much do you spend on calling overseas? Do you call make a call from your existing phone line or from your mobile? With Vonage VoIP, you can save up to 50% or more off your phone bill. We often use that to make international calls to clients, friends and close relatives. It's great savings compared to paying for expensive rates when using the traditional telephone fixed line.

So with VoIP internet calling, it's cheaper to keep in touch with overseas contacts and friends. Great for consumers and small businesses alike.

When you drive, don't drink!

We often hear about the campaign "If you drink, don't drive". Infact, during my last trip to Australia, I noticed that the Aussie government put up very strong and firm warnings about this in big billboards and newspaper advertisements on this issue.

Even in Singapore, if you are caught drinking and driving, your driving license will be revoked for 2 years and if you are caught for the second time, you serve a jail sentence.

Why are the authorities so firm about about this? This is because far too many lives are robbed and countless accidents on the road are caused by drink drivers. I read about a sad story of a 18 year old girl in Seattle, who was left bedridden and her face disfigured while in her prime, and the accident happened on her graduation day. The news was devastating to her parents who pinned high hopes on their only daughter. They sought help from a Seattle accident lawyer to deliver justice for this matter. The experienced accident lawyer had successfully sought for a recovery compensation for the family. The sad thing was this young girl's life had never been the same again after this serious accident. She remained bedridden all her life but thankfully, the money received with the help of the lawyer firm could help to repair her facial appearance through professional plastic surgery.
