I can understand how difficult it is to work at home when you have two kids to handle besides those tiresome chores for the house. It is not easy succeeding in this balancing act without stress or challenges.

In the past few weeks, I find myself feeling tired before 11pm at night. This is almost the end of the first month since Clayton started going back to school, and my waking hours are earlier than before. google update again

So the google update was here again few days ago - sending some joy and some sorrow - as usual. Until now, there is still speculation of how to get a higher PR and how to avoid being demoted but the real truth is, you can never know unless you are Google. In the past, it's all about building links and the more backlinks you get, the better your chance in getting a higher PR. But I have also heard that some bloggers with stagnant and inactive sites had received PR by surprise. So, it's hard to tell, isn't it? You may be following all the rules yet you may not get a PR raise but to ensure a smooth PR journey, the best is probably to steer clear from paid links or posts...

word verification to avoid comment spam

Maybe some readers may find it annoying the next time they leave a comment in my blog but I've decided to activate the word verification step in the comments box to avoid comment spam. It's not funny when I'm greeted with more than 30 comments within half hour. As much as I would like to think that it's a physical person writing the comments, it might just be the work of an automated software. Nowadays, you can find software for just about anything. A friend was telling me that people are making hundreds of dollars from adsense from automated software for their blogs. Well, whatever it is, if you are a sincere reader who wants to leave me a comment - thank you for taking the effort to complete the word verification.

I believe many of us want more traffic to our blogs and sites. But some people go overboard on this, get desperate and start leaving irrelevant comments in blogs and end their comments with their site URLs. Mostly, this is done by internet marketers or affiliate marketers with some who own online stores. In wordpress platform, you can filter these 'spams' easily using anti-spam plug-ins but in blogger, you can't.

While these commenters thought bloggers will just approve their 'marketing' or 'selling' messages readily, they are wrong. All it takes is a 'reject' button and you can say good bye to these insincere commenters. So, if you want to leave any comments here, be genuine.

alexa ranking up again :(

I was awaken so very early this morning by this post nasal drip cough. It's something I've been struggling with for a while and I'm praying every minute that I'll over well over with it. Usually, the cough will stop when I step out of the bedroom and head to the office and so I did that.

Sometimes I don't know what life will be like if there is no internet in times like these. Maybe I'll be reading or perhaps watching TV. But anyhow, I thought I would check my sites and lo and behold, my alexa ranking for my few blogs had gone up again - to my dismay. I am totally unimpressed but can only tell myself to do alittle more work in the weeks to come.

Lately, I have been noticing the increase in my alexa ranking - not something I am pleased about but it does indicate that I have to do something about it. Perhaps it's time to focus more on SEO and more niche topics instead of blogging what's coming into my head. While I still want this blog to be a personal expression of thoughts and opinions, the not-so-impressive alexa score does bother me a little. Now that the festive season is almost over (for me), it's time to get serious with increasing my blogging moolah.

This is the first month of my blogging biz for the year. It's kinda hard to get back to writing like before after a long lazy break for almost a month. Well, the truth was I was still doing some writing during my vacation. I didn't grab opps like I used to but I wouldn't turned down any offers from some networks. It did feel good to make money during a vacation, that helped to cover some of my shopping indulgences too :P

I'm still thinking if I should move on to start and build more blogs. But seriously, it's tiring to write and handle that many and I don't think I have the time at this point. Our events for the year are laid out and I would like to spend more time with my growing boy. Growing this blogging business seems promising. Yet, you need time to succeed and earn a decent living from it. Know what I mean?

Looking back, it's been a full year since I began blogging actively. While I'm sure it's been more than a year, it seems like I've just picked this up months ago... how time flies. Over the last one year, I have learned so much from the blogosphere, made some cool buddies online and grown alot as an individual. I'm more aware of what's going on out there in the web and social media platforms, learned more about SEO and other internet marketing stuff. I also have influenced a few others to jump on the blogging bandwagon and I sincerely hope that they have benefited from this experience.

All I can say to you, my friends, is, if you are one of them who are faced with disappointments and distress over the BIG FAT ZERO, then consider this: If you are a real blogger, one who want to inspire people and touch hearts by your articles, posts, stories, photos, videos and whatever, continue to do it FROM YOUR HEART. If you are considering having both a blog and a website that will work if you have enough information to cover in both. Linking them both together is a great idea if you do decide to have both. It's one of those days when I don't feel like writing a long post and you feel like your head is too heavy to think too hard. I know some bloggers take breaks on Sundays while some take the opportunity to catch up with emails, comments moderation and update blogs. I guess it's the long weekend break that making me feel a little lazy and tired. Maybe this is Mother Nature saying 'hey, take a break'.

It's always interesting to chat with non-bloggers about blogging. During a dinner conversation with a good friend last weekend, we were discussing about paid blogging and the local blogging scene. My friend had a blog too but an inactive one. He asked me how regularly do I post in my blogs. "Is it one a day?", he asked. I looked at him, shook my head and gave him an estimate. He got a shock. Some of you know what my answers are... what about you? How many posts do you write a day for your blogs?

I found another Singaporean blogger!

It's interesting to note that in the last one year of blogging, most of my blogging buddies are mostly from Malaysia except one, who hails from my hometown, Singapore. Whenever I ask my Singaporean friends if they have a blog, they would look at me and reply "Where got time?"

Not having enough time is a typical excuse of most Singaporeans. Today, I have the opportunity to check out a Singaporean's blog who lives in a district not very far from where I used to live. From his profile, I understand that he reads widely and loves devouring knowledge to broaden his perspective of life. In his blog, he shares his thoughts and observations on subjects pertaining to happiness, life, media, people and local news. I can tell that this blog is his space to document his thoughts and views while hoping to inspire those who come along and leave footprints behind. I believe his work and little addition to the family must be keeping him busy everyday which is why David doesn't post everyday like some of us do :P

Lately, I received some offers from companies who expressed interests in placing links of gambling sites on my multiple niche blogs. While the opportunity may be enticing, it is my conviction not to place gambling-related text links on my blogs, especially the hard core ones. My dad was a gambler and I watched how he destroyed his own career and family life with his gambling habits so I'm not keen at all to watch another person suffer from that. Some people start multiple niche blogs for this reason and I have no right to comment. But as fas as I concerned, my conviction towards this stays.

My second Google check is here! Well, it's only a $129 but it's in USD so that's still not bad, isn't it? I'm happy to see some movements in my Google adsense, compared to few months ago and that means I'll be receiving my Google checks on a more regular basis! I know there are many who boast about getting a four figure adsense check every month - kudos to these individuals but I think you need lots and lots of multiple niche blogs before this can ever happened!

For me, 5 multiple niche blogs and I'll already spinning. It's not the same as what the internet marketers are teaching - setting up multiple niche blogs that are subscribed via feeds, which means no writing needed. Somehow, this doesn't quite work for me, I think.

puking on interims?

Well, my friends are puking on interims... imagine that - if you have 5 blogitives, you need to churn out 2 interims x 5 advertisers' posts, that gives you 10 interims plus 5 actual posts, so you need to write 15 posts altogether - whoa! That explains why I'm careful not to take too many blogitives or I'll really puke on interims.

There are 11 more days to the new month and I've reached my $2K target - now, I can relax a little, do some research on our Hawaii trip and sleep earlier :)

questions from a business friend

This morning, I received an email from a business friend whom I knew for many years. Her email was a pleasant surprise as I am not one of those who tell the whole world that I'm a blogger - lol. The truth is I don't have many friends around me who are active bloggers like me. That explains why most of my blogger friends are from the blogosphere itself. She asked me a couple of questions:

1. how do you define what's bloggable in your life and what's private? any guidelines that you follow?

2. you seems quite comfy posting photos on-line (especially your son Clayton...he's so CUTE!). Are you not worried of the photos being used out of context by others?

3. do you recommend getting own domain?

a virtual assistant for my multiple niche blogs

After some weeks of careful consideration, I finally took my DH's advice to get a virtual assistant to help me with some internet marketing work. As much as I enjoy maintaining my multiple niche blogs, I have no time to optimize them. These days, I don't blogwalk as much as before, plus my boy is demanding more attention from me everyday. I thought Montessori programs will teach them to play by themselves but it didn't seem to work that way for Clayton :( He still expects me to sit down or watch TV with him. Actually, I think he's helping his momma to rest and take breaks from the computer - how smart of him!
