What does '420 mean?

Lately, I came across a few drug rehab websites and it was good to know that there were proper centres set up to help this group of people to get back on their feet again.

This morning, I learn about cord blood drug rehab which has comprehensive information and resources on how to identity signs of drug addiction among individuals. There are also guidelines on how to educate kids and teenagers on the reality of drugs as kids at 11 and above are usually curious about alchohol and drugs.

What I find interesting is the significance of '420', on what it means to drug users and the meaning and theories behind this term.

Linky Love - Jennifer

Being mom to one active two and a-half year old toddler can be fun, exciting, dramatic, stressful and a handful for me! So I wonder how young mom Jennifer can do so well two teenage girls and a teenage stepson. Her new blog talks about the 'colours' in her life and how she deals with every life challenge and opportunity. I can see the Jennifer loves kittens because she has not one but four of them! Reading her profile, I know she's a heart-warming person with a strong personality. How about dropping her new blog and get to know her more?

My opinion on interracial marriages

Actually, I am rather glad that most dating singles today are opened to interracial marriages and relationships. I have a few couple friends who are happily married despite racial differences and what matters most in a relationship is always love, trust and acceptance. My husband's close cousin marries a non-Chinese and you should look at the beautiful features of their children - they are so good looking!

In fact, black white dating is no longer a newsworthy topic as compared to the past. People are more open-minded as they become more affluent with proper education and cultural exposure. I am impressed by the success stories in an interracial dating site, showing happy couples in a relationship and marriage.

I respect pet rescue lovers

I don't have a dog but I do have a lot of respect for pet and dog rescue lovers. There is an 'Adopt a Pet' booth in a nearby neighbourhood who would exhibit a few rescued cats and dogs in an expatriate mall every Saturday. According to the volunteers, some of these pets are abused and some found on the streets, so the team will provide them shelter til the pets get adopted.

Well, you may not a pet rescue volunteer to play your part in helping these rescued animals. Big Paw Designs, the online store for unique pet accessories has specially created The Woof Fleur de Lis charm and keychain with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to New Orleans pet resuce organization. The donations will then be used to provide a better shelter for these pets. And if you like to adopt a dog, USED DOGS has some well-trained dogs ready for adoption.

Information for work at home moms

Every morning, I wake up with thankfulness in my heart that I can work from home. Sometimes, the stresses and clutter of everyday life make me forget and I start to complain and rant about little frustrations along the way.

Having a home office is truly a blessing as I am able to watch Clayton grow. Lately, I have been exposed to a lot of information on how to make money online and work from home. The online business has opened up lots of opportunities for women who like to make money online in the comforts of their homes. Writing reviews for advertisers is getting popular now and yes, I have jumped on the bandwagon too.

If you are already working from home or plan to do that, you may like to check out Dosh Dosh. The name sounds interesting and the information in this blog is valuable for anyone who likes to explore online business opportunities and working from home. You can find topics, resources and information that relate to blogging, affiliate marketing, get-paid-to programs, advertising networks and social media monetization.

This is definitely a blog I will be visiting regularly as I am already getting alot of tips and insights from here. So, bookmark this, go through the posts and I believe you can find something that will interest you.

Wouldn't you like to be a SPELUNKER too?

The blog name caught my eye when I first saw it in PPP forum months ago. "HippieSpelunker" is a fun, smiley, cheerful Lisa, who is also a work-at-home mom of three. She has excellent writing skills and you can read that from her blog where she talks about life and everything else that interests her. And she is in the spotlight in this week's SupahStar Saturday!

Catch Lisa smiling in her latest self-portrait and remember to say 'hello'. Wouldn't you like to be a SPELUNKER, too?

Everyone can be romantic now

Ask any woman if she likes to receive love letters and the answer is normally a big YES! I am one of them. Maybe I was reading too much romance novels in my teenage years or perhaps I was growing in the world of fairytale fantasies.

It is nice to receive comforting, sweet notes from someone you care about and love. Writing love letters need not be a daunting task. All you need is to be sincere, be willing to express yourself and it doesn't have to be a long winding one anyway. A short note of love goes a long way. If you don't believe it, try it.

Here is a simple example:

"You are...
loved
honored
respected
treasured
adored
cherished
longed for and...
missed.
I love you,

xxxxx"

Complain while maintaining your privacy

Ever had a bad experience in a restaurant and yet, you don't want to disclose your identity in the feedback form? Anonymous Email allows you to send an email to the recipient without the need of disclosing your personal email.

This may be a good medium for parents and students if they like to voice certain concerns to the principal. For instance, if a disruptive or unprofessional behaviour of a teacher is being noticed and sometimes, the student may be too afraid to report such acts. In the workplace, you may lodge a complaint about the harassment of a colleague or someone performing any illegal activities at work without losing your privacy.

When used constructively, this anonymous way of communication can be useful and helpful in many scenarios.

Doris Goes Shopping

I found some cool sites lately for the shopping enthusiasts. The fun thing about these sites is that you can create your own blog page within the site. And what I truly enjoy is to browse through the recommendations by other members, and I am amazed by some of the nicest and cutest things in the Web, created by creative designers from all over the world. I pick up some highlights in my shopping blog and if you are seriously keen in finding out what's cool, hip, stylish and fun in the Web, check out ThisNext and StyleHive.

100% compensation from accident claims

I just read about a 100% compensation claim when you are injured in an accident in the UK, and of course, this is for those living in the UK. In other words, if there is 'no win' for your accident claims, you don't need to pay any fee, and there is no hidden consultation costs too. A free assessment will be done by the Specialist Personal Injury Lawyers which will advise if the claim should be pursued. And if it warrants a claim and it is successful, you keep 100% of the compensation!

Spread this word to your friends or relatives living in the UK.

Didn't make it for bloggers party

Adam and few other blogger friends asked if I made it for the Bloggers Party in Kuala Lumpur that took place last Friday. Sadly, I did not. I registered late (as I forgot the date itself) and there was no more seats left by then :(

Anyways, I am seriously thinking about a bloggers conference for this region. How many of us in this region can make it to the PostieCon '07? Not really... though I really wish I can be there to witness the dynamics and excitement. I believe there is a shortage of good blogging-related conferences and events in this region. What do you think?

Reef Flip Flops for the beach

A nice and comfortable pair of walking sandals is a 'must' when I travel, especially when I am that sort who walk a lot. I believe that walking is a great way to know a city or destination. Also, travelling light is also important which means I would usually bring only another pair of shoes apart from wearing a good pair of sandals at most times.

Reef flip flops are more than just ordinary flip flops. They are good looking enough to be worn with casual dresses for a day outing. I like the foliage colours of the seaside - light green, would sure be nice to be worn for a sailing activity and on the beach.

All things dental

A couple of months ago, I was experiencing some discomforts on my big molar tooth and the pain became so excruciating that I needed to visit my dentist. He did some work to that tooth but unfortunately, the pain persisted a day later and I needed to revisit him.

Personally, I shudder at the thought of any dentistry procedures and I will avoid visiting dentist at all costs. Due to the bad condition of the molar tooth, I was suggested a crown canal which I wasn't too ready for.

With any dental surgical procedures, it is important to find a dentist you are comfortable with. An experienced dentist with careful and gentle hands can help to ease the discomforts and fear of any patient. Charles Brown DDS PC has been conducting thousands of crown, root canal treatments and surgical procedures for the residents of Alexandria and its surrounds. He has a proven track record with many reputable credentials to his name, which makes him a well-sought after dentist in the area.

Find your designer sunglasses here

How many sunglasses do you have? I think for the men, the answer would probably be 'one' whereas for us women, it would be 'two', 'three' or perhaps more! I must admit that I have more than three pairs of fashion sunglasses but they are all collected over the years :)

Usually when I purchase sunglasses, I am often attracted to the aesthetics more than the functionality of the pair of sunglasses - vanity overtakes function. It is nice to know that you can learn how to select the right pair of Designer Sunglasses at OpticsPlanet, the online store for the largest selection of eyewear and sports optics.

Find your choice of eyewear here- be it designer sunglasses, prescription eyewear, golf sunglasses or polarized sunglasses, you will be spoilt by the quality selections at lowest prices guaranteed. And for all orders above $29.95, you receive free delivery via UPS.

Heater for winter nights

While I was studying in Perth, it was almost not possible to go through winter without a portable heater in my room. Though the winter wasn't as cold as Melbourne, it was nice to wake up to the warmth, especially during those nights of thesis writing.

In the living room, we would be gathering round the fireplace and watch our favourite movies. What I didn't enjoy was the hassle of adding firewood and the mess around the fireplace afterwhich. At one time, my host was thinking about getting one of those gas logs, which was convenient and more tidy. It wasn't always easy stocking and chopping natural wood, not during those cold, winter nights.

We must definitely look at having a gas log when we move to down under. A patio heater would be nice to entertain during the cooler evenings and another portable one for the guest room, perhaps.

Self Portrait Sunday

I took a break from Self Portrait Sunday at Digi Cass last week but I'm back for this one! Took this pic from my camera and didn't even know I could send it to my MacBook via Bluetooth. How convenient!

If you haven't participated in DigiCass' Self Portrait Sunday, it's a good time to promote yourself in this 'shameless' way - everyone of us needs some kind of self-promotion, don't we?

A new system for the repair and remodeling contractor

One of my cousin in Singapore has been repair and remodeling contractor for many years. He has a few employees working for him and due to his busy schedule, it is hard to meet up over family gatherings. In this business, he gets to work with individual homes and small companies. It's very much a hands-on job and delivery, quality finish and customer satisfaction are all important factors to retain customer loyalty and to bring in new customers. A lot of his new clients come via referral from old and existing ones. This power of referrals is key to be successful in this business.

However, I notice that apart from having a secretary who doubled up as an operations assistant, he doesn't have a proper system in managing work flow, check job orders, process purchase orders, calculate estimates, prepare invoices and handle the daily or weekly job schedule. Having to depend on human resource alone can be challenging when there is an increase in the number of projects during peak months, such as Chinese New Year and end of the year.

I believe MyOnlineToolBox is a good software to provide him the solutions to all those operation challenges he is currently facing. This will increase the productivity of the employees as there is a reliable system to perform the necessary operational assistance. With an effective system and increased productivity, he can focus in marketing and bringing in more clients for the company.

I have a sailing fantasy...

Since I was a little girl, I would fantasize myself sailing in a catamaran in the deep blue ocean, sun bathe in the deck with a nice, cool cocktail. I always love the ocean breeze, strolling on the pristine beaches or just simply tucking my feet under the fine sand.

We had a enjoyable time during our trip to the Great Barrier Reef few years ago where we booked a day trip in a nice catamaran. That was my first snorkeling experience and I was amazed by the beauty of the underwater creatures.

I came across St Thomas sailing adventures and my fantasies began again. Imagine sailing to a peaceful, quiet island in the U.S. or British Virgin Islands in Scubadu, the luxury catamaran. Have a day of adventure - snorkel, walk on the beach, dig into a freshly prepared gourmet lunch or have a cool swim in one of the St John beaches.

Or how about a romantic dinner cruise with your loved one where you can relax in the golden sunset and count the shining stars as the night draws near.
