There are many ways you can earn money from home. The internet presents lots of opportunities but after many months of working and researching, I realize that it may not work for everyone.
One thing for sure, earning money from home via the internet is not an overnight success. Some or rather, many internet marketers like to have you thinking that it is easy and fast. Yes, buy a program $xxx dollars, follow the system, watch the videos and bingo, you get $xxxx a month. Real? No. Both DH (my work at home hubby) and I had purchased systems like these and they didn't worked as promised. So what did we do? Ask for refund la (the S'porean slang :P)
Well, you can create affiliate sites and stores and start selling things. This earn money from home method has worked for many affiliate marketers, work at home moms, stay at home moms, work at home dads, stay at home dads and it really does work. But don't expect a big income once you set up your online store. It takes months and even years to bring in the money.
If you do your research conscientiously, many people do earn money from home from certain niche topics, including selling gifts, health products, natural skin products, beauty products, baby clothing, weight loss pills, ebooks, office products... the list is long.
I finally created my 5th affiliate store last night. No thanks to the lousy internet line, it took me longer than usual. The bad internet connection here in Malaysia really affects those who are earning money from home. It's frustrating, irritating but there's nothing much we can do about it, unless we move to another country.
So that's all for a short post on how you too can earn money from home. But let me remind you that patience is the essence of success. I fall short in this area cos I want to see results fast. I'm still learning and now I'm sharing it with you.
Have a wonderful Easter Weekend,

Don't give up your dream if you are have just started out to earn money from home
I've been absent for a while from this "Work At Home" and "Earn Money From Home" blog and it's simply because I have so much to do and so little time!
No thanks to the bad internet line last week, it took me longer to set up my affiliate stores, did my research, wrote my posts and that certainly affected my work at home productivity. I was upset, frustrated and irritated. I can't wait to move to another place where the internet line is faster, better and more efficient. Why are we paying full rate every month for substandard internet service?
Working on my plan to earn money from home isn't an overnight project. It is going to take months and even years. I am thankful that my work at home hubby is very supportive and he's constantly encouraging me to take this work at home business as a 'real business'.
Well, many people find it hard to invest in a 'work at home' business but they will be very open to throw in thousands of dollars in an offline one. This is because not many people can accept this 'earn money from home' concept via online technology. It is still new to many of us in this region though the number of affiliate marketers and work at home individuals are growing by the day.
There are many perks to one who desires to earn money from home but there are also setbacks that you must be prepared for. Like for me, I can only dedicate my full attention to my work at home business between 9am - 4am and after that, I must be prepared for distractions and interruptions once my preschooler is back from school.
So between 9am - 4pm, every minute and hour is precious to me and I need to accomplish as much as I possibly can amidst my other personal commitments like pilates, swimming and leisure breaks like a massage or facial.
Do you like to earn money from home? Maybe you are looking at being an affiliate marketer or perhaps an adsense blogger. I just wrote a post about how anyone can earn money from home via affiliate marketing with the new affiliate theme. This is great for people like us who know little or nothing about programming and codes. You can read more about the post here.
Don't give up your dream if you are have just started out to earn money from home. Take it as a business.

work at home mom takes his son swimming
The work at home mom is excited when Saturday arrives and so is the preschooler at home! He can't wait to go EC Swim and last Saturday, he stopped removing his goggles during his swimming class and that was the first breakthrough for him.
Can't wait to award him a nice warship when he learns how to swim breast stroke in months to come!

optimizing my sites as I earn money from home
Has another week gone past? One can lose track of time and date when working from home. All I know is that the weekends is here and it will be soon gone!
This is another busy week as I optimized all my websites since I'm now earning money from home full time. I begin to realize that if you want to earn money from home via the internet, it has to be done full-time. Kudos to those who have a day job and can still earn money from home with an online business on the side - it is really hard work!
Besides a Compare Hotels website that allows you to search cheapest accomodation deals from luxury hotels to historic hotels, Search Your Hotels provides travel resources and articles for those who like to gather some travel information.
Then it's another Wedding Shopping site I have set up and would be making some adjustments to the niche. I am beginning to realize that niche sites are the way to go if you want to earn money from home through your blogs and sites.
It's comforting to see that eversince I optimize my sites, my adsense is looking healthier compared to the last few months. It is truly encouraging.
I just completed another Natural Health store today and would be launching it in the next few days. There are still two more sites waiting to be set up and I'm excited to get them completed!
So much for updates on how I'm planning to earn money from home, parenting at home is becoming more meaningful everyday and I'm learning to enjoy every bit of it. Working at home allows me to cook at home daily and making sure everyone gets a healthy meal. Though it's time consuming but it's always nice sitting down together for a family meal.
That's it for a quick update and I hope those who observe the Earth Hour will continue to stay eco conscious for the rest of the day.

you too can be making money at home
School holidays is fun for all the children. They can sleep in, watch their favourite cartoons, play toys and take a nice break. But for the mom who works from home, it's major disruption and a forced vacation!
More mothers are making money at home these days. While many are tapping on the potential of internet technology like myself, there are other work at home moms who are making money at home with their skills.
I know of some who bake very well and with the encouragement of friends and family have started their own baking business from home. It is nice to be making money at home - little or much - small or big. It's not about 'money' but feeling 'useful' and independent.
Of course, there are those who like to start a small home business so that they too can be making money from home but due to children commitment or a busy travel schedule, they can't stick to something permanent.
There are also more and more men making money at home too. Starting an internet business is the most common and online trading is another. From setting affiliate stores to sell automotive performance parts to digital gadgets, these stay at home dads are becoming enterprising.
Making money at home is something many people like to achieve and all it takes is to discover the world of home businesses out there. Can you sew, knit, bake, craft, market, blog, design, type or teach? If you can do any of these, you may be just a step closer to making that work at home dream come true!

the work at home mom is back
Oh, have this work at home mom disappeared for that long... time seems to fly so fast, I don't even realize that I haven't updated this blog for more than a week!
I was away for a few days from the start of the one week school holidays. It's been a while since I last made a trip to Singapore.
With the current economic situation, I managed to refrain from my regular shopping this trip except for grabbing some clothing for Clayton. He's outgrowing most of his t-shirts and so he's got a few new items added to his little wardrobe.
In the home office, I'm busy adding content and articles to my new sites while working on backlinks for those new niche sites. It's been fun searching for new niches and developing new sets of keywords.
While this is school holiday week, there won't be alot of work scheduled in the home office since I have a busy preschooler visiting the home office every now and then. I suppose most work at home moms would have to take this week off with their regular schedule disrupted by their little tikes.
Moving forward, I am looking forward to a break from the home office and onto my Pilates class tomorrow. Yippee!

long weekend for the work at home mom
After a long and busy week, it's time for a break from the home office.
The challenge of a work at home mom is to clearly detach herself from the home office during the weekends. It's tempting to stay in the home office a little longer and forget about spending quality time with the family. These days, I make a conscious effort to spend less time in the home office during the weekends.
Perhaps that's the reason why some work at home moms take a longer holiday at the end of the year so that they could officially take a break from the home office. I recalled checking on extended stay hotels during long school holidays. With the current economic situation, it's probably wise to travel regionally and take a break from long haul vacations too.
So it's long weekend here in Malaysia, more reason for the work at home moms to take an extended break from the home office. Have a good weekend.

the work at home learns to swim properly
Well.... I don't even know that I haven't posted for more than a week! I've been terribly busy working at home and running errands throughout the week. Not forgetting adding more niche sites to my online business!
This week has been exciting for me. Besides the usual work at home duties and responsibilities, it was my first lesson in ECSwim. I've decided to learn how to swim properly. Knowing how to float in the water isn't good enough at all especially when my son is learning how to swim properly too!
I sneaked out some time before returning to work at home on Wednesday and had a very good session. I had not had my head submerged underwater for a long time! Personally, I was glad to overcome that 'fear factor' in my head and yes, it was a nice break from the home office too. I have to admit that swimming is such a great form of exercise. If all weight watchers were to pick up swimming, they probably won't need appetite suppressant pills anymore!
Our family photo CD just arrived in the mailbox this morning. All I can say is that Jenny did a great job with our family photos and viewing those fun pictures was a distraction before I could get down to work at home.
Here are some for your peeks and have a great weekend and take a break from your home office :)

work at home mom counts down to the weekends
My journey as a work at home mom continues....
Last weekend, I collected my new MSI Wind Network, another new addition to my home office gadgets. Then my work at home hubby suggested that I should have a LCD monitor so that I didn't have to add too much stress on my eyesight... so he graciously got me a 20" Samsung LCD Monitor.
This week has seen an unending string of events from running errands for the home office to firming up details for some upcoming training. Working at home allows me the flexibility of time but that also means that I must be efficient during those precious hours when Clayton is away in school.
I'm still working on more niches for my online home business and every niche presents me a new opportunity to learn new things as a work at home mom. The only setback is the slow internet connection that affects our productivity in the home office. This can be annoying and frustrating when we are working from home.
With the weekends leading up in a day's time, I'm hoping to catch some lost sleep, do some abstract painting with Clayton, make some vege rubber stamp art, build some more trains with his lego blocks and perhaps, treat ourselves to a yummy Japanese buffet lunch.

the work at home mom looks forward to pilates
It's been more than a month since the work at home mom started on pilates and she's loving it!
Yep! I look forward to my Pilates class every week now - it's like a good break from the home office. Initially I thought it was going to be a slow and easy fitness class but I wasn't so right after all.
Though 'slow', Pilates movements can be challenging when those you can start to work on those unused small muscles. The core muscles on the thighs, legs and abs were strengthened from those slow and controlled movements... the repetitions may be minimal but they really tire you out!
One thing I know, you won't need diet pills for sure if you get serious with Pilates workouts especially if on the Pilates reformer.
Pilates is also good for work at home moms who sit alot in the home office or for anyone who stands and sits most hours of the day. The workouts help to strengthen the back and maintain body balance.
So, now you know why the work at home mom can't wait for her next pilates class... now, she's looking forward to another new fitness program. Coming up soon!

so much to do for the work at home mom!
This week seems to pass like a breeze when work gets more intense in the home office. Somehow, the schedule of a work at home mom is always full and occupied. It's exciting, yet sometimes, I do look forward to a break during the weekends.
But it's been a wonderful week so far. I had just learned that another friend of mine is working towards being a work at home mom too. She can't wait to find a home business so that her work at home dream can be realized soon.
For the past few days, I was busy building another niche site (to be launched soon!). I bought the Revolution theme after much considering as they are one of the better and professional looking wordpress themes for work at home moms who are keen to build niche sites (Click here to view more details).
On the home end, we may look into tighter security measures after hearing that our friend whose house is equipped with has been broken into. The security in this country is getting from bad to worse!
I've also signed Clayton up for his first swimming lesson - we want him to be comfortable in the pool before our Phuket trip in May. Oh yes, the work at home mom does deserve a break too. This phuket trip would be our 'cheapest' family vacation - I bet the work at home dad in the home office is delighted with this travel arrangement - all thanks to my good friends, Meng and Kim!
So back to work in the home office. I'm getting my niche site up and running by next week. Till then!

work at home mom's brief update on the weekends
I would believe that most work at home moms look forward to weekends. I'm one of them for sure.
Last weekends, we had a nice lunch at the new teochew restaurant Chao Yang in One U. Managed by the same group who also owns the Hakka restaurant in the Curve, the food is fabulous and reasonably priced.
Being a teochew work at home mom, I enjoyed the simple yet tasteful Teochew braised duck and stir fried long beans with olive. The plain and smooth teochew porridge with sweet potato reminded me of mom's cooking in my younger days.
Opposite Chao Yang, a new dessert restaurant - My Honeymoon Dessert - had opened up. Those of you who are Hong Kong dessert fans will know Honeymoon Dessert. Sadly, this new Malaysia branch has poor interiors with wallpaper of encyclopaedia pasted on the walls. I don't know what has encyclopaedia got to do with desserts la. We thought having nice blown ups of dessert pictures will draw the foodie crowd but maybe the Honeymoon dessert owners know best.
Coming to the dessert, the work at home mom here didn't think too much of the Tong Yuen (sweet dumplings) - they really tasted like frozen tong yuen lah! I really have to make a trip to Hong Kong this December! It's now back to my negotiation skills with the work at home dad in my home office!
Valentine's day dinner was home made and it was an exception for the work at home mom to open the kitchen on the weekends! We just didn't wanna pay exorbitant prices for our steaks in restaurants.
I spent time fixing transformers and lego blocks with my boy and did managed to cut down the home office stuff for that weekend.
Tranformers 2 will be released in June - for those of you who have boys in the house! Catch the transformers 2 trailers if you are a fan!
That's the work at home mom's brief update on the weekends.... hope yours is well spent :)

work at home with children
One of my challenges I faced as a work at home mom is the ability to balance my time between work and spending time with my boy. I believe those of you who work from home can understand how it's like to manage a home office with children around.
There are some ideas you can adopt while working from home with your little children:
1) Plan your time
One of the best things to do as a work at home mom is to plan your time and to-do list. Be productive during those hours where your children are off to playschool or kindy. And if they are not doing any of the above, dedicate yourself to full concentration of your work when your child is asleep. Be realistic and don't try to do too much.
2) Include your child in your home office
Recently, I set up a little work area for Clayton so that he can work along side with me in the home office. While I continue with my online home business, he will be playing on the computer and I can participate in the activities too. Perhaps you can set up a space for your child to doodle, draw, paint, read a book or some quiet activities. The whole area of doing that in the home office is that you get to spend quality time with your child and keep an eye on him or her.
3) Get your child to participate in chores
Spending time with your children should not be limited to play time. You can involve your child in some home chores or get him/her to help clean up or organize your home office. Yesterday, Clayton tried to help fix our broken bed with DH with his set of industrial clamps and plastic saw. It was amusing to see that he was trying to be 'Handy Manny'.
4) Put on an educational program
I'm pretty sure that alot of work at home moms tend to use this method to occupy the junior in the home office. While there are tonnes of good quality educational video shows out there that can keep your children busy, make sure you set boundaries for them. Sometimes I tend to overdo this when I have to give full attention to my home business. You should keep a constant eye of your children even when an educational program is on. Basically, don't let the TV become your babysitter. Don't overuse it. I'm seriously guilty of this at times.
Keep in mind that the most important reason you are working from home is that you can spend more time with your children. Plan your time well as a work at home mom and don't forget to include play-time with your children as part of your home business schedule.

another weekly update from the work at home mom
It's been a week since Clayton started After School Program and so far, he hasn't complained about those extra hours in school. I am happy cos this means I can spend more time working from home, researching on my online business and taking lunches with DH.
Tonight, my little boy and me had some nice conversations before he went to bed. He wanted me to list the silly things he did and the good things too. We joked, laughed and sang some chinese songs together... these are little pleasures for me while working from home. I'm moving onto a more serious note as far as our online home business is concerned. Being a work at home mom also means that I need to set targets for my home business while making sure that the home affairs are taken care of. I can see that the work at home dad here is working very hard too, trying to balance family, work, business, caring for his mom...etc. This week, this work at home dad celebrated his 45th birthday - we had a mini cheesecake and a home cooked roast dinner. Simple but nice. No frills, nothing fancy but the great company was all it mattered.
This week, I received some valuable advice and encouragement from a good friend who has been jetsetting (is there such a word?) between brissie and china... she's been a wonderful friend who's always ready to hear my rants and musings. Sometimes our opinions differ but we still respect each other's thoughts and that means alot to me. Tonight she gave me a piece of valuable advice. I greatly appreciate it. Once again, I thank God for special friends He put into my lives. There are so many of them.
Moving into the weekends, I can slow down as a work at home mom and do more with my boy. I see ourselves building more legos, flying more helicopters, fixing more coast guard boats and playing some online disney games.
The work at home mom here looks forward to these precious moments together...

my journey as a work at home mom
It's been 4 years and 4 months since I began my journey as a work at home mom while managing my work at home business.
My little boy has started K1 this year and the after school programme (ASP) this week. Putting in ASP means that I have more time for my work at home business and thus, allowing me to be a more productive work at home mom.
For my friends and regular readers, you may have noticed that I have changed this blog's title to "My Journey as a Work at Home Mom". I have been spending alot of time reading about SEO in and around the web and I realize that it's about time that I focus on main keywords for this blog. I can't find a more appropriate title than highlighting my current calling as a work at home mom and my work at home business. I am very thankful that our offline seminar business has allowed me to work from home and no one has ever thought that it can be a work at home business.
I will continue to post my parenting stories, my travel updates, my day to day experiences plus lots of lessons learned as a work at home mom. You may also hear my work at home rantings every now and then since this is my personal space.
So if you are new here, don't be a stranger and if you have been following my work at home journey, thank you for your support. I will be posting more updates on my new work at home business in weeks to come. Stay tuned.

a wonderful get-together with the cousins
It was great to see how Clayton had fun with his cousins this Chinese New Year. They shared toys, played together, taught each other to play, laughed, talked and did the things kids usually do. For me, it was relaxing to watch them play... it was basically fun!
Though I wished DH was with us, I knew that he had his obligations so that was fine. He too had space to catch up with old friends and did those boys' stuff... it was overall - good!
I just hope that clayton can get to play with Jonathan and Janessa a little more often before we move to brissie. It's great to know that my brother and his wife are both so cool about kids playing together. They are not tensed, fussy or 'kan cheong' when they get overly excited or rough with each other.... they are just cool. They understand that 'kids will always be kids..." They grow up.

my monkey friends...
Nothing is better than to meet up with good old friends during the festive.
Many years ago, I had a wonderful group of girl friends whom I called 'the monkeys'. We used to hang out together. We laughed, we talked, we cried together, we stood by each other... we were known as the 'five monkeys'.
As each one of us matured and got married, had kids and lived our own lives, we grew in our own ways but our hearts remained close. I had been away for more than nine years and though I don't get to see them often, they remain close and special in my heart. And I'm so glad we got together this Chinese New Year... we are all mothers now!(one of the monkeys couldn't make it for the gathering...)

tradition says, traditional says...
Image by Hatters! via FlickrSo glad that I can resume my blogging in Singapore this trip. Though I wish my macbook pro is as light as the Sony Vaio, I can't wait to travel with my new MSI Wind U100 in my future overseas trips. It seems hard to gain understanding from people why I'm back in my hometown for Chinese New Year reunion but honestly, I don't really bother about what they think. To each his own so everyone has his or her reasons for making certain decisions and doing certain things.
The common answer is "tradition says...." oh well, as if these people follow traditions ALL the time. Traditions were created by men and not all were good to follow and most of the time, people followed them blindly. Having said that, some traditions are good to keep though they are not 'hard and fast' rules to be followed. At the end of the day, life is about choices.
Tradition says, traditional says, traditional says and in the end, people get upset, get hurt and kick a big fuss. For me this time, I'm just glad to be free from mozzie haven and all the excessive packing. I have to confess that the only thing I miss is spending this occasion with DH... but I have to respect his decision and I appreciate the fact that he respects mine.
Thank you my darling...

2nd pilates session
Today is the 2nd session of my pilates class at Pilatique and it is also my first encounter on the reformer. Last week, the session focused on the basic foundation of pilates and the correct breathing techniques. Today marks the beginning of a more intensive workout on those unused core muscles.
I have to say that working out on the reformer is fun. You actually learn to control and work those core muscles and after that one hour of workout, Eliza (my pilates partner) and myself could feel that our legs were tired and 'soft'... it felt like we had just climb a steep hill. We were tired!
It feels good to start a fitness program like pilates at the start of the year. For the least, I won't need to worry about Lipovox or other diet pills. Following a good fitness program means that I can stay trim, keep fit and meet my personal health goals.
We are moving into month two of 2009 in a week's time. If you have yet to begin your health goals, it's still not too late to start now.

moving and migrating - soon!
Two years ago, I rewarded myself with a nice branded watch after all the hard work in the entire year - late nights, early wakings...etc. But last year, things were a little different. I decided not to look at any luxury watches so no more thoughts about a new Patek Philippe or Jaeger-LeCoultre watch. I'm very happy with my Cartier Roadster and will not be investing in another luxury watch for a long time.
In less than two years' time, we will be moving. Yes, I'm out of here before 2011. It's amazing how time flies. I'm here in Malaysia for nine years and it's been a great journey. Looking back, I had little fears about starting out in a new country cos I was so blinded by love! Moving and living here was a great experience despite all the complaints, grumblings, murmurings and occasional dissatisfaction. I always believe that we should enjoy our journey no matter where we are. Complain if you need to complain - never mind. Sulk if you need to sulk, yell if you need to yell cos when you open up your heart, you feel better.
So, I'm checking out schools for Clayton and trying to learn about Brissie suburbs before our official move. I sure hope to spy the land before the actual time comes!

my blessed boy
This is the third week of Clayton's first year of kindie. Tomorrow is also the first time he'll be in school uniform. Unfortunately, the school uniform seems too big for him and mommy would have to get them replaced.
Come february, we have decided to try him out on ASP (After school programme) as he is getting bored every afternoon after he comes back from kindie. Instead of those extensive hours in front of the tv, ASP keeps him busy and at the same time, enriches him. This would also mean that we've got my free time to build our online business and do more during those 3.5 hours he's in school.
My little boy is growing up so fast. Everyday, he's learning new tricks, using new vocabulary and pushing new boundaries. Parenting can be tough and challenging on some days but the fact that I can give my love to nurture a little one brings me lots of unspoken joy.
I am so blessed to be mother to my little boy. Despite his monkey tricks, he's so precious, so unique and so blessed.

about DH and KL Lake Gardens
See, I never meant to set up this blog to rant about my DH. This is just a personal space for me to rant, talk, complain, share, network and connect.
Few days ago, i reminded DH of our family outdoor photography shoot and he seemed displeased about it. Then he told me that he didn't wanna go cos he didn't like outdoor shoots. His reply shocked me cos I remembered telling him about it few months ago. Anyways, I told him it was ok if he didn't wanna join us. I shot an email to my photographer about the change of venue since I wasn't sure how to get to KL Lake Gardens. Well, don't sneer at me about that cos I'm not local!
Anyways, he came back to me in the night and told me that he was just teasing me. I almost wanna slapped him at that time cos I had to now write to my photographer to tell her how indecisive and 'tao hong' my other half can be!
Amidst all these rantings, we had a very fun outdoor shoot this morning which began at half past 8 in the morning. It was nice to run around at the beautiful playground with clayton, spending quality time as a family. Then I told myself that this wouldn't be the last time we were going to be here. We have discovered another nice hangout place for the family... Don't know where else to find space to breathe in KL, head down to KL Lake Gardens...

choosing the right web hosting provider
After a long break since November, I'm nudging myself to get on with my online business. What I need is momentum and discipline together with a clear mind of how to get started.
With so many plans in mind for my online business, I would need to look into a good webhosting apart from the one I'm having now. In the last couple of years, I witness a sprung up of webhosting companies - large and small - into the virtual world. With so many hosting options available, it can be hard to decide which is best and suitable for my online business needs.
We've heard about green wedding, green birthdays but it sounds a little weird when I first learned about green web hosting. For those of you who like a quick overview of which top web hosts to choose, Web Host Geeks has the answers all at one glance for you. Apart from learning about the features, special highlights of the web hosting package, you can also read reviews of the respective web hosts. This would help to speed up your research in locating the right web hosting provider in this busy e-marketplace.

home and personal updates: Clayton is sick :(
It's a relief for me that Clayton's high fever has broken! He started feeling feverish on thursday evening and the fever shot up very quickly in the night. It frightened me most when his fever went so high on Friday night and when he woke up crying and saying that he couldn't see me! I prayed hard and gave him a dose of medicine with his juice and was glad that he went back to sleep.
Anyways, I was glad that the fever was gone by this morning though he had a bad throat and could hardly talked. I don't enjoy nursing a sick child - not so much of the tiring moments but the fear of not knowing how to handle the child and the pain of seeing my child suffering. Now, I'm praying that the cough be gone and his voice returns... I do miss that chirpy self of his....
Looking forward, this is an exciting week as I'm starting my pilates class. It's good to learn something new and what more, I know it will be beneficial to my health. Then I have a couple of meetings planned before getting out there for a family photo shoot in KL lake gardens.
Have a great week ahead...

perhaps a vacation is Phuket is coming!

DH is talking about a trip to do his kite surfing. I volunteered to be the babysitter and he could see that he wasn't too excited. Then again, I reminded him that the hotel rates will be the same whether he's traveling alone or with us so that sort of settled his uncertainly.
After doing a quick search on Phuket vacation, AirAsia seems to offer a good deal of around RM400 (incl taxes and fees) for the month of June. As for hotels in Phuket, it depends on where you plan to stay. Since his kite surfing would most likely be in Nai Yang Beach, we would probably choose a phuket accommodation in that area. So the TOP 5 Phuket hotels for your next Phuket vacation:
Indigo Pearl, Nai Yang (see above photos)
JW Marriott Spa & Resort
Mom Tri's Boathouse Hotel
Amari Coral Beach Resort Hotel
Holiday Inn Resort

a little more about japan
This afternoon, my friend Tracy reminded me that I haven't written much about my Japan trip.

the street where the crowd gathers every Sunday

Harajuku on Sunday

A busy crepe kiosk
It's hard to begin cos there are so many things I enjoyed in my Japan trip. Besides the busy subways and mega malls in and around Tokyo and Shinjuku, I had a great time snacking around the subways and streets. We tried not to touch any sashimi or sushi sets during the trip as they could get very expensive. For most times, we ate in local establishments - small and squeezy, yet cosy. We had katsudon, soba, udon, okonomiyaki, tako ball and lots of snackies like fresh fish cake, handmade mochi and french breads. Tsukiji was a nice place to walk around and snack around though we couldn't bring ourselves to join one of those super long queues to the sushi restaurants.

Clayton helping himself to the crunchy seaweed sample in the souvenir shop!
We walked so much that I almost thought I had developed Plantar Fasciitis! My feet and heels were all sore at the end of day. It was a tiring thing to navigate around the local trains and subway lines but we had fun!
I found myself popping into any Muji and Uniqlo shop I could find. These were the cheapest places to shop! Harajuku was a little crazy on Sundays but it was a great experience being caught in the human jam. It was like a super crowded pasar malam! We didn't spot many funky dressers on that day but it was sheer fun to queue for handmade crepes and peeking into those teenage-packed shops.

Autumn in Hakone

our private hot bath in the courtyard

kaiseki BREAKFAST!
Overall, a trip to Hakone is something I would recommend if you are heading Tokyo. Hakone is slow, touristy, beautiful, natural, personal and cosy. Besides the Hakone loop and list of things to do, a night or two in a traditional ryokan is a real must. I missed the private hot tub in our room and courtyard, the autumn leaves and the marvelicious kaiseki dinner!

be thankful for what you have
I just got a note that an old friend of mine from Singapore had gone to be with the Lord few days ago. Though I haven't met him for years, I know that he must have gone through much in the last few years of his life here on earth. He was the one who taught me how to move a 'mouse' and use the mac way back in the early 90s. In fact, I would regard him as my first Mac teacher! An energetic tennis coach and someone who loved life, he was a real talent in the multimedia world. It is sad to hear that he had suffered from a rare motor neuron disease which took his life away at only 42.
Though it sounds very sad to receive such news at the early part of a new year, it goes to show that life is short and we should not take it for granted. Sometimes, we take things too hard and get upset over trivial things. But if we were to smile and love a little more, our lives can bring more joy and happy returns. It's been a reminder for myself cos I find myself going through a roller coaster ride in my personal life lately.
Whatever goals you set and plans you have for this year, may you be thankful for the life you have now and learn to treasure whatever you have.
Live life with joy. A soft word spoken turns away anger (Prov 15:1).

starting my new year goals early
This year, I'm determined to start my goals early. Next week, I'm planning to check out the pilates classes at Pilatique. I did a quick research and found a few pilates studio in Kuala Lumpur. It seems that Stot Pilates sounds pretty interesting to me. Only thing is, I am quite taken by the rates... they aren't cheap! (about RM180 for a private session)
Next week, my 4 yo will start K1 at Juara Cerdik (fungates system) at DUMU so I would have some time for my pilates and kickboxing classes. This year, I've purposed to work on my body and mind which includes my health too. Oh yes, a detox is set to come in this first quarter... my body sure needs an overhaul!

my goals for 2009
So what are your goals this year? Here are mine:
1) Pick up a pilates class
2) Have a profitable online business that brings in a five figure income
3) Own a property that can bring me a passive income
4) Be a more patient mom
5) Be more supportive towards my other half
6) Clean the fridge once every two months!
7) Communicate better with my mom
8) Pick up a new skill
9) Buy less and save more!
10) Exercise at least twice a week!
11) Organize my financial portfolio and home office area
12) Improve my photography skills
We cleaned up the fridge this afternoon. It was good to throw lots of expired stuff away though I would throw more if I was the only one doing the cleaning. For whatever reason, DH loves to keep old stuff including chocolates that expired two years ago? I suspect they will still be there by year end though he claimed he would eat them!
Perhaps the flooring of our guest's room needs fixing. Or maybe we need a Delta faucet for the backyard. We sure need a new sliding gate - it has been squeaking for a long time.
Oh yes! I need to sleep more and get a detox done too in 2009!
Have a blessed New Year and a happy one.

it's a year of blessings
I can hardly believe that 2008 is coming to an end and in less than 2 days' time, we are into a new year. I haven't been listing down any goals like last year but there are a few things that I'd like to achieve in 2009. Looking back, I'm once again thankful to God for a blessed year and for being there amidst the storms and trials of life. Life is never a bed of roses but it's comforting to know that we can still smell the roses if we still believe in them.
I just did a quick greeting a while ago for some close family members and friends. These pictures remind me of God's faithfulness and His unconditional love. Be hopeful in the new year!

move forward into 2009 with courage and enthusiasm

Christmas is over and in a few days' time, we are into a new year. It's a new era, a new beginning for many of us, a new set of goals, new dreams, new ambitions, new resolutions...etc.
I believe many are looking forward to the new year though we are armed with much caution with the current bleak economic outlook. But whatever the papers, the financial magazines, the experts or the professionals are saying about what will happen in 2009, let's move forward with courage, enthusiasm, optimism, joy and hope.
If 2008 has not turned out the way you like it to be, don't be disheartened. Life is about learning and renewing, keep counting your blessings and smile through the hard and good times, tough and happy moments. Put the past behind you and be renewed for a greater year ahead.

missing cool winters
Looking over the vacation pictures make me miss the wonderful times we had in tokyo and hakone - it was very nice.
While we were traveling around in tokyo, I was rather concerned if the hotels would provide electric blanket during winter. Interestingly, unlike australia, most hotels in Japan do not provide electric blanket or heated beds. But what you would find is central floor heating so that you can feel nice and warm in the room during winter time. I believe those of us who live in a tropical climate can hardly understand what it's like to have heated floors cos what we really want is floors with special coolers!
Speaking of the weather, I'm missing the cool december climate we used to have here. The effects of global warming is more real than we can imagine! I really hope I can spend another cool winter next December... now, I wonder where I'll be heading!

have a blessed christmas filled with great things
So what is your gift wish this Christmas? An unlocked phone from Apple? A new Nikon D90 DSLR camera? A shopping voucher from your favourite online store? A designer or luxury bag from Gucci or LV or just wishing for the gift of love and peace to flood your hearts?
In the midst of my domestic turmoil and stress, I find myself seeking for a peaceful way to end the year and a joyful and purposeful way to greet the new year. While I have many goals and dreams that were left unfulfilled in 2008, I'm listing them down for 2009. Looking back, it's still a great year of blessings and I can't be more thankful to the Almighty for His daily providence and abundant grace.
Wishing everyone a blessed Christmas filled with new hopes, dreams and great things for the new year.

a nice break in Singapore
It wasn't blissful since I had been home from our family vacation. Domestic issues were tiring me and I had to escape to Singapore for a break.
Being home to feel the Christmas spirit is always nice though I wish I can spend Christmas in Singapore next year. I had my hair highlighted in purple streaks which I almost asked for a tone down the next day cos I wasn't used to looking so hip and purple has never been my best color! But then I realized that life is about trying new things so why not give it a chance? So, I have purple hair this Christmas, a new pair of Markus T glasses and a few alldressedup tops which were going for half the price.
Though it's a quiet Christmas at home as usual, it is a good time to reflect on the year's blessings and get myself ready for 2009.

reminiscing Hakone Ginyu
I posted another video taken at our favourite ryokan in Hakone - Hakone Ginyu... the autumn leaves and scenery was just magnificent. I find myself reminiscing the wonderful moments spent in Hakone Ginyu once again...

our family trip in Hakone
I managed to upload a few videos of our family vacation. There are many small video recorded throughout the trip that my hard disk has literally no space to store all of them. Here are a few for your eyes taken in Hakone Japan...

Autumn leaves in Japan
It's amazing that three weeks have passed and I'm now back in KL. Am I excited to be back? Definitely not! On one hand, I miss being home and on the other, I don't like to be back dealing with domestic issues.

The best times of the vacation were spent in Hakone since it was my first experience in a Japanese ryokan. It felt nice to be treated and pampered like a queen. If you are ever thinking of staying in a Japanese style inn or style, Hakone Ginyu is my recommendation. Though it comes with a price tag, the experience is unforgettable and unique. From the moment you stepped into the ryokan to the time you say goodbye, the service is at its very best. What I really liked about Hakone Ginyu is the private hot bath in our room. It was very nice to soak in the hot bath in the cold...
Waking up to autumn leaves and the breathtaking mountain view was an amazing experience. As I am writing about it, I feel my troubles melting away for a while... it is nice to reminisce.
Here are some autumn leaves in Hakone in November 2008... they were beautiful.

tokyo and osaka
Ask any woman where are the best places to shop in the world and I bet Japan, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, US and even Paris are few of them.
While I was in Tokyo and Osaka, I noticed that there were lots of specialty stores and they were nice to behold. Winter time is a great time to see women in their stylish winter clothing including smart wooly jackets, knee high boots, colourful stockings, winter hats, designer scarves...etc. In face, there are also lots of cool and sexy lingerie stores around and some of them can look very kinky.
Whatever it is, Japan is a great place for those who are designer conscious and it is very hard to believe that the country is officially undergoing a recession. It is still the place where fashion and style thrive in Asia!

missing The Lanson Place hotel
I find myself missing Causeway Bay after staying there for four nights. Plus, The Lanson Place hotel had given us such a wonderful experience that I found it hard to say good bye.... what else do you find a four star hotel with enthusiastic concierge staff which ran to the door to open the door for you each time!
Whether you are heading out for shopping empty handed or going out with your hands full with golf bags, they will be smiling as they run to the door and even apologize if they are too late to do that. Though the room does not have a harbour view, it has made up for the nice and cosy decor and interiors, plus the quality continental breakfast every morning. Have I forgotten to mention that The Lanson Place hotel is conveniently located near Jardine Bazaar where all the good local food is found!

celebrating my birthday in hong kong
After 12 nights in Japan, we arrived in HOng KOng on 3 December. We were greeted with a taxi strike at the airport and that wasted some of our time getting to our hotel.
It was a good decision to book a limousine and checking in to The Lanson Place in Hong Kong island - a very nice serviced apartment, also a member of the small luxury hotels. As a member of the SLH, we were upgraded to an executive suite which was nice. It is hard to get a spacious room (about 50 sq metres) in Hong Kong hotels. What more, contemporary fittings and interiors, quality bathroom accessories and fine faucets plus a very nice welcome hamper. I would recommend The Lanson Place Hong Kong to anyone planning to make a trip to Hong Kong!
Well, today is my birthday and I'm so glad to be celebrating it with my DH and lovely son here in Hong Kong. No matter what people say about HK, I really do like Hong Kong. It has a special place in my heart and somehow, it's nice hanging around on the streets and even chilling out in the room. And oh, I even received a birthday cake from The Lanson Place - how sweet!
DH said I could buy anything with his credit card and I am certain he meant it as a joke. But still, he's not complaining too much about my first pair of shoes in Hong Kong and a Prada bag which happened to be on sale :P So, it's another year older for me and I am counting my blessings once again - thank you, Lord.

brief report on our family trip - 1
I apologise for not writing for the last one week. I am away for a vacation with my family and due to my limited internet access, I haven't been able to blog regularly.
We arrived in Tokyo on 21 Nov late at night and after spending some time navigating our way around at Shinjuku Train Station, also known as the busiest train station in the world, we finally got into Fraser Place Shinjuku Apartment at almost 11pm. The flight and train ride to Tokyo was great and we were greeted with a nice and spacious one bedroom apartment at Fraser Place.
As I won't be blogging the details of the trip yet, I can only say that no one would ever need to take any weight loss pills after a seven day free and easy trip in Tokyo! Walking to all the train lines and doing all the walks on the streets are enough to burn those calories and lose the excess pounds. You won't even need to worry about alli side effects or any weight loss pills side effects with this natural weight loss method! Take a holiday to Tokyo!
We spent 3 nights in Tokyo before moving to beautiful Hakone and Izu. Today is the second day in Osaka and for the first time, we are back in the hotel room resting and recharging... becos the stores are already closed at 8pm!
Hakone is such a beautiful place and we only wished we had more time there. The autumn leaves in Hakone and Osaka are magnificient... many people are traveling to these areas just to witness the wonders of nature.
I can't write more for now but I'll be posting more details on our family trip when I find time!

bound for Tokyo and more!
I'm so excited - we are off to Tokyo tomorrow! After all the weeks of forum and travel research, we are all packed up and ready to go! This has been a crazy week as I pack for our family vacation and run all the errands like going to the bank, sending DH to and from Vocational Bible School, fetch Clayton to and from Baobei and entertaining him in between.
I haven't had much time to breathe and therefore, I will be seriously taking a break when we are out of here. It's been very tiring for our family the last few weeks and DH too deserves a much needed break.
We are ready to comb the streets of Tokyo, Osaka, the ancient city of Kyoto, Hong Kong and Macau. I can be certain that no one would need any diet pills after all these walking during the vacation... and we are definitely traveling with our stroller!
Till then, I'll try to put up some our trip photos whenever I find time...
Tokyo here we come!

book hotel accommodation online
I'm a big believer for online accommodation reservations - I seriously do! It saves time, hassle and money! All you need to do is some research to compare hotel rates and if you need, read some travel reviews in the travel forums such as trip advisor or virtual tourist and you can get our travel planning going. It's that simple. Whether you are booking las vegas hotels or any asia hotels, online hotel reservation makes it so convenient and simple!
Of the so many travel search engines I frequently, hotels.com and travelocity top my list of travel booking sites. The nice thing about Hotels.com is that you don't need to make a prepayment and most hotel accommodations allow you to cancel 3 days before your arrival date, with no penalty charges. As for Travelocity, the Good Buy hotels require you to make a prepayment. In other words, you will forfeit your payment should any cancellation arises due to last minute change in your travel itinerary.
If you are planning to book your hotel accommodations this holiday season, check out these travel coupons and savings from hotels.com:
$20 off with 3 night booking!
$30 off with 5 night booking!
$50 off with 8 night booking!
$75 off with 10 night booking!
$100 off with 12 night booking!

toggling among a full list of tasks
It's been a very busy two weeks for me. I find myself toggling with many tasks on my plate. With the short time window to complete some work that requires full concentration, my mind is often torn and distracted once the clock strikes at 4pm. This is the time my active and chatty four year old will be shouting 'Hi Mama' from the door.
It's nice to hear his voice greeting me though that also spells, "there goes your personal time, Doris". You probably don't believe this but I'm still haven't penned down all my travel details for our upcoming tokyo trip next friday. My Firefox browser window has almost 10 windows opened and I often toggled one after another, depending on what my mind is after.
Oooh... I'm hoping to do another trip to SG this weekend before the long vacation. I just thought it would be nice to see mom before my trip. I'm back to my multiple browser windows for now... I need to find out how to reserve my shinkansen train tickets when I get to Japan! Does my hubby know that I'm working hard on our travel itinerary?

A bad cut on the chin - ouch!
How many mothers know that it's so heart sick when your child has a bad fall or has an accident?
My little boy slipped in the long bath two days ago and it traumatised him badly. It was the worse fall ever and he had a bad cut on his chin. He was screaming in pain and all I could do was to hold him close and pray. He refused any treatments and would struggle so hard when I tried to put a bandage over that cut. I almost thought he needed stitches cos I could see the open wound but I knew that he wouldn't allow that. Finally, after much struggling and 'forcing', I managed to put a op-site plaster over the cut.
Thank God the bleeding stopped and he's now back to his old tricks... I'm praying for a nice healing of the wound and that there'll no scar left behind. I'm truly thankful to God for His protection... it could have been worse...

finished our last workshop of the year
We finally ended our last workshop of the year - Writing Back by Ron Kaufman. We had a great turn out and it was even better to see participants enjoying their learning session with the customer service guru himself.
This workshop, I was spending most of the day with my preschooler since DH was capable of handling it on his own. After working with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala Lumpur for more than five events, it was disappointing to note that service had paled in certain ways. Personally, I also think that the hotel rooms at Mandarin Oriental need some serious upgrading! While this is not a travel forum I don't intend to go into the details of reviewing the hotel room. I just hope that the carpet is cleaner and the shower head is replaced the next time I check in at Mandarin Oriental again!! Whatever the state of the hotel room was, my preschooler was having a ball of a time.
To all the graduates of Writing Back 2008 - thank you for your ardent participation and support. Keep those wonderful writing going!
